Ultimate power of PEX pipe
PEX pipe is an inventive product that has widely spread in the market for cold and hot water plumbing systems. PEX is the short form of cross linked polythene polymer. PEX is the result of the process in which links are formed between molecules of polyethylene and thus given the name of the cross linked polyethylene. Thus the stuff formed is extremely durable that can withstand with high temperature.
A PEX pipe was developed in early 1960’s in Europe. Initially it was called VPE ( polyethylene) but now days it is known as PEX. In 1980’s PEX was introduced into the market of United States. PEX is constructed from highly cross linked HDPE (high density polyethylene) polymer. The HDPE is melted and constantly extruded into the tube.
This PEX pipe has several benefits over conventional plumbing system. It is highly flexible, can be allowed to bend at the angle of 90 degree without the need for elbows and joint fittings. Less connections and fittings means lower risk of leaks and have greater retort for hot water. It is very simple and easy to install and thus results in inexpensive labor. This pipe is energy efficient than other conventional pipes like metal or rigid plastic pipes.
It is highly durable and flexible plastic because it can contract and expand easily with varying temperatures. This durability and flexibility makes it very resistant to latent bursting and also in the event of the freezing. As it has very few connections and joints, thus provides low resistance to the flow of the water in it. These pipes require very petite maintenance. There is no worry for pitting and the corrosion of the pipe as it is made up of flexible plastic. Pex pipe can be stored on spools and can be shipped at lower costs.
